The super senior is already seeing the rewards of his offseason workout.

Fresno State running back Jordan Mims wrote a heartfelt letter to the Red Wave back in January, announcing his decision to return to the team for one more year of eligibility. The senior poured his heart out in the letter, expressing his love for the community, reflecting on the hurdles he has overcome and talking about his excitement for the upcoming season.
“I can’t wait to use my last year of eligibility with this team and staff. I know it’s going to be so special,” Mims wrote at the time. “I’m excited about this next season and can’t wait to get to work.”
The work is now well-underway for the Bulldogs, who opened fall camp on Aug. 2. And Mims is feeling as good as ever, eagerly waiting for the start of the season in three weeks.
The East Palo Alto native, who was dealing with nagging injuries early in his collegiate career, said he is now the healthiest he has ever been.
“I obviously overcame a lot and I have worked harder than what I did when I came in to prevent the injury, so just staying on top of that and making sure my body feels good,” the super senior said.
As he vowed in his letter, Mims has been putting in the work during the offseason. That offseason work, Mims says, has helped him add some more explosiveness.
The former Menlo-Atherton High School standout credits strength and conditioning coach Andy Ward for helping him develop as an athlete and as a young man.
“He has helped me with some of my rehab in the training room,” Mims said. “He cares a lot about helping me be a better person and running back. I can’t thank him enough.”
When Mims wrote his letter in January, he expressed his excitement about the return of Fresno state head coach Jeff Tedford, who led the Bulldogs to a Mountain West championship in 2018 before stepping away in 2019 due to health concerns.
“With Coach Tedford returning, I know the possibilities and opportunities that present to this team will be nothing short of amazing,” Mims wrote earlier this year.
Now, with the season just a few weeks away, Mims reiterates the same sentiment.
“He has recruited me and he has trusted me from the beginning, so it’s good to have him come back,” he said.
Mims finished the 2021 season as the team’s second-leading rusher, totaling 127 carries for 710 yards and six touchdowns. He also added 25 receptions for 324 yards and four touchdowns.
