Central East’s Sofia Lopes added more accolades to her decorated resume on Saturday as she dazzled the crowd at the Central Section Masters. Lopes came out blazing in the 100-meter hurdles, taking the victory with a time of 14.08. Clovis High’s Avalyn Hill followed in second (14.69) while Liberty’s Madelyn Porter finished third (14.80).
Lopes, however, wasn’t done yet. The senior doubled her victory when she finished first in the 300-meter hurdles, posting a time of 42.57. El Diamante’s Brooklyn Bawanan came in second (43.52) while Avalyn Hill followed in third (44.16).
Lopes, who is widely regarded as one of the best hurdlers in the Central Valley’s history, already broke the Central section record in the 300-meter hurdle. She will look to put together another unforgettable performance at the state championships on Saturday.
Lopes will then say goodbye to Central East and prepare for a new chapter at USC.
