By May 13, 2023Uncategorized

It’s a very busy time of the year in the Central Valley. The school year is nearly over and the spring sports season is also coming to an end. That of course means champions are being crowned across the Valley in various sports.

Here is a shout out to some of the teams and athletes who are walking away with hardware this year.

We start at Clovis East. It was a double party for the Timberwolves this week. First, the badminton team captured a section title, taking down Buchanan 15-9 in the finale. Then, it was the boys volleyball team who earned a Division 1 title. In front of a packed house at Clovis East, the squad defeated Clovis 15-25, 25-22, 25-16, 25-17 to earn the championship.

At Buchanan, Hilton Green continued to set the bar higher and higher. Green, who already surpassed his personal best in pole vault multiple times this year, cleared 17-1 at the D1 Finals, making him the state leader in the event at the moment.

At Clovis West, it’s another dominant year for the swim team. The Golden Eagles now own a new D1 record in the Girls 200-Yard Medley Relay (1:45:13). Clovis West’s Hannah Marinovich also set a D1 record in the 100 Breaststroke (1:01.31)

Kingsburg has its own dominant swimmer. That’s Sydnee Wilson. She finished first in the Division 2 50 Freestyle (23.93) and second in the 100 Freestyle (52.35). Wilson set new school records with those marks.

The Sanger Tennis team continues to add to its legacy. The Apaches have multiple singles and doubles players who are competing in the section championships. Stay tuned for updates.

Back in Fresno, more tennis hardware! This time it’s the Fresno Christian boys tennis team who captured the Division IV championship after a 5-3 victory against Reedley.

For Buchanan’s track-and-field team, it’s business as usual. The Bears have once again won the D1 Central Section Championship. But the Bears still have big goals ahead. Stay tuned for the state championships.

For the Clovis Cougars, the boys 4×4 team shined bright, breaking the school record with a time of 3:17.26 to take the D1 Section title.

At Washington Union High School, the boys volleyball team has made history, making it to the playoffs for the first time ever. The squad entered the playoffs as the No. 13 seed and defeated No.4 Edison and No.5 McLane to reach the semifinals.
