Kerman’s Sebastian Cruz excels at Cal State Fullerton, Lindsay’s McKaylie Caesar breaks 6K record, Dezjhon Malone’s first INT, Carys Hall returns

Sebastian Cruz

Kerman native Sebastian Cruz is in the midst of another stellar season at Cal State Fullerton. The Titans’ soccer star was leading the country in total points (20) heading into Big West play at the end of September, according to the team. Cruz had one of his best performances on Sept.11 when he scored a brace to help the Titans overcome a two-goal deficit against Stetson.

The junior is coming off a sophomore season in which he started in all 17 games. Cruz led the team with 17 points as a sophomore, recording seven goals and three assists. Three of his seven goals were game-winning goals.

McKaylie Caesar

Former Lindsay High School standout McKaylie Caesar set a program record at Cal State Fullerton when she completed the 6K in a time of 19:58.8 on Sept. 23. Caesar became the first woman in the program’s history to complete the course in under 20 minutes.

The Lindsay native competed in cross country and track for three years in high school. She also participated in basketball, swimming and golf. Caesar was named cross country and track-and-field team captain as a junior and senior.  

The former Cardinal Qualified for the CIF State Championship as a sophomore (XC), junior (XC/TF) and senior (XC/TF). Caesar also won the East Sequoia League Cross Country Championship as a sophomore, junior and senior. Additionally, she was named Orange Belt Runner of the Year as a junior and senior.

Carys Hall

Clovis North grad Carys Hall, who faced an ACL injury in her senior year of high school, is now back on the field and enjoying tremendous success with the soccer program at The University of Alabama.

The No.5-ranked Crimson Tide remained undefeated in league play after a 2-1 road win against Georgia on Sept. 29. It was the team’s seventh consecutive win.

Dezjhon Malone

Former Edison High standout Dezjhon Malone recorded his first career interception when San Diego State faced Boise State on Sept. 30.

Malone was a three-year letter winner and a two-time first-team all-league selection at Edison. He was also named captain team MVP.
