FSM Spotlight: Fresno Christian, Sanger West, Selma

Fresno Christian‘s football team is in the midst of a a historic run. The Eagles have now won 28 straight games in the eight-man football division. In their latest game, the Eagles took a 46-36 win against Riverdale Christian. Senior quarterback Logan Stotts went 24/35 with 287 passing yards and four touchdowns in the win against Riverdale. Senior Jude Sheppard caught seven passes for 132 yards while junior Joshua Kubota contributed with 12 catches for 90 yards and two touchdowns. Dylan Fittro and Tycen Ramirez each scored a touchdown.

Fresno Christian now stands at 5-0 this season, continuing a winning streak that has lasted for years.

Sanger West football is making major leaps in the program’s second year of existence. After going winless a year ago, Sanger West now stands at 2-2 overall, 1-0 in league. The Hornets started the season with a 61-0 win against Del Oro. They also opened league play with a 33-16 win against Hoover High. Senior Elpidio Gamez scored three touchdowns in the win against Hoover. The Hornets next game is against the struggling Madera South Stallions (0-4).

It has been a difficult season so for Selma High‘s football program, but the Bears had their most impressive performance on Friday against Reedley. Selma held on for a thrilling 27-21 victory against the Pirates to earn its first win of the season. The Pirates made a furious comeback effort in the second half after trailing by 21 points, but the offense fumbled at the seven-yard line with 59 seconds left and the Bears held on for the win. The Bears now stand at 1-4 overall.
