“Playing sports while keeping a 4.0 GPA isn’t easy. Academics has always been my first priority though.”

1.What are you doing during the current break from sports to stay in shape and develop your game?

This break I have been weightlifting 4-5 times a week. Two times a week I train with my friend Carson and work on routes and timing with his personal quarterback coach. Also, I’m on the Nemesis 7on7 team and we train twice a week working on our position groups and offensive installs. We are preparing for some big out of town tournaments in the upcoming months.

2. Why do you think your team was able to enjoy success in your freshman year and how do you build on that going into the next season?

We had a lot of success last year because of the spread offense that we ran. We had a very good run game which opened up our passing game. This allowed our offense to throw the ball deep and to make big plays. We’re building on this by how hard our receivers and QB’s have worked this off-season, by developing our footwork, hands, timing; improving our overall athleticism and even focusing on blocking to help the run game more.

3. What do you enjoy about playing for Clovis High

The thing I most enjoy about playing football at Clovis High is how great our football culture is. Every Friday night the stands are packed out and tons of people from the community come to watch and support us. The coaches and staff on the team are amazing and always do their best to support and help you. Another thing I love about playing football at Clovis high is family. We all are family on the Clovis High football team and are all very close to one another.

4. When did you start playing football? Who are some of the people who helped you learn the game?

I started playing football in 2nd or 3rd grade for the Clovis Clash. Then once I got into 5th grade, I played football at Cedarwood Elementary and have been playing at school ever since. My dad is someone who really helped me learn the game. He’s been teaching me to how to properly catch the ball and play receiver ever since I was 3 or 4 years old. Another person who helped me with the game of football is Eddie Dean. He has taken me along with his son Carson to many different training sessions, camps, and practices since the 5th grade, and that’s helped me to become a better football player.

5. What are some of your proudest moments on the field?

My favorite and proudest moments on the football field were when we played both Clovis East and Clovis North my freshman year. On both of those games, I had two touchdowns with over 80 receiving yards. During the game with East, we had a play designed where the QB pitched the ball to our running back who then threw the ball to me… and I scored a touchdown on it. That was one of my favorite moments. Another one of my proudest moments was winning the best receiver award. Last, but definitely not least, was winning our TRAC championship and going 9-1 our freshman season.

6. Looks like you have achieved a 4.0 GPA. How do you manage to succeed in school while still keeping up with football?

Honestly, playing sports while keeping a 4.0 GPA isn’t easy. Academics has always been my first priority though. My parents taught me that. Keeping good grades is very important to me because I never know when my time with football may end, so I always want to be preparing for my future. Making the time for studying and turning in homework are very important. To me, those are the keys to keeping good grades while continuing to be a student athlete.

7. What do you think are the strongest parts of your game?

The strongest parts of my game are my speed, and my jump-ball ability. I run track and was on varsity my freshman year. I am ranked in the top four in the district for the 400m and in 8th grade got 2nd in two events at the West Coast relays and the league championships. At the VSG recruiting combine in December, I ran a 4.40, forty yard dash twice, hand timed. Another strong point in my game is my jump ball ability against corner DBs. Freshman year, this is how I got most of my touchdowns and catches. Also, at VSG I recorded a 33 inch vertical jump and a 10.0 foot broad jump.

8. What are your long term goals with football?

My long term goals in football are to be a D1 athlete and possibly play in the NFL. Football has become a part of my lifestyle and is a big part of my life.

9. What goals do you have outside of sports?

Outside of sports, my goals are to keep up good grades and graduate with a 4.1+ GPA.
