“This semester I am trying my hardest to get the best grades possible and to have close to straight A’s.”

Clovis High junior Nic Viau has made countless memories since he started playing football in the second grade. But it’s Viau’s first ever touchdown that’s still one of his favorite moments till this day.

“I remember practicing that play over and over in practice,” the wide receiver said. “Then when the coach called it, I got excited. The QB threw me the ball, I caught it wide open and ran right up the middle of the field and scored.”

But the junior said it’s not just the touchdowns and the wins that make the journey special. Rather, it’s also the relationships he has been able to build along the way.

“My favorite memories over these past couple years are all the friends I have made from the outside league teams I have played on,” the Clovis student-athlete said.

Whether it’s on the bus rides, at practice or in a game, Viau treasures the opportunity to strengthen the bond with his teammates.

“Football is a brotherhood and it’s all about teamwork and how you and your team play together,” he said. “If your whole team is selfish and only worries about themselves, then the team won’t be a good team.”

The 3.3 GPA student athlete credits his parents and the many coaches that have helped him learn the game since the beginning. Now, he’s taking all the lessons he learned and looking to take his game to the next level.

“I am training to get faster with my speed coach, coach Jenkins. I am also weight lifting with Richard Lazaro to get strong for the season,” Viau said, adding that he takes pride in the work happening behind the scenes. “I train 5-6 days a week.”

With the hard work he has put in throughout the years, the Valley athlete has attained the ability to play both sides of the ball.

“It helps me with playing offense, as well as read the defense to know what they will do,” Viau said.

The versatile athlete talked more about his defensive ability in an interview with Recruiting News Guru, noting that he played free safety last year.

While he’s focused on achieving his goal of becoming a starter on a D1 roaster in college, the Clovis Cougar is also determined to excel in academics and be able to give back to his community.

“This semester I am trying my hardest to get the best grades possible and to have close to straight A’s,” he said.

And when there’s still some time to kill, Viau plays video games with his friends or spends time with his family.
